Peace of Mind
I feel like I have been hibernating, holing up to a large extent and preparing for this new recording project. Things have been quiet these past two weeks. I am, however, thrilled and very lucky in that I have exactly the people I want playing on these tracks, friends of mine and amazing musical architects & innovators, who have kindly offered up their work for far less than they deserve. Come early October I will be doing vocals and any other final touches and then the tracking portion should be complete. Then the real record-making stuff has to happen and I am still working on the who/what/where for the second phase. I think you are going to like it. I hope so. On another note, I would be remiss if I did not say that I have been absorbed in this election, with the primaries being held today, more than ever before, I feel the importance of what November can bring. I never like to get on the soapbox with regard to candidates, moral imperatives, etc. and I try not to get caught up in the media undertow, which seems more concerned with pushing divisive party politics (both left and right wing hackery) than with presenting a forum for peoples concerns. I am looking for a place to turn that would highlight the shades of gray, the difficult truths that we face, and the uncertainty involved in our choice in trying to solve our problems. Maybe its me that needs to get with it, maybe that is not the role of the media in this day and age; I don't believe I am as good a citizen as I could be, though I am trying to be better. All I know is the places I turn for understanding, clarification, or just plain acknowledgement of how confusing everything is, are making me feel more lost and more disenchanted. Instead of meaningful dialogue I find a great deal of empty sloganeering, harsh invectives, and skewed facts, which can make the entire process into a cheap charade. I tend to weigh things heavily, maybe I do not have a right to be so critical, I cannot even fathom how difficult it would be to be President, but currently those in high office seem to lack the humility which gives great dignity and respect to their positions. I think we have had an administration in these past years that has confused brash and impulsive behavior with strength and has viewed the quality of temperance in others as weakness. I am really hopeful that November can bring something new. I think we all deserve it.
